First of the Supercars: 1988 Porsche 959S

LS

October 2, 2009: After the reserve was not met at $210,100.00, the owner has reposted this 959S on EBay with a Buy-It-Now price of $395,000. We’ve also recently noticed the car for sale on Hemmings, for the same price.

September 24, 2009: The Porsche 959 is often attributed to starting the “supercar” craze of the late 80’s and 90’s, which gave birth to cars such as the Ferrari F40, Bugatti EB110, Jaguar XJ220 and later, the mighty McLaren F1. The 959 was originally built to enter the infamous FIA “Group B” rally series but the class that was home to the fastest, most powerful and sophisticated rally cars ever built was banned due to high level of danger for drivers and spectators; most cars never ran. Porsche took the same rally racing technology and used it in their road going version, the 959 you see here. Check the video after the jump to see what we’re talking about.

September 14, 2009: While this may not be the prettiest car we’ve ever featured, it’s certainly rare and exciting. The R5’s were originally built to homologate their FIA World Rally cars, so these are truly rally inspired. The seller claims this R5 weighs in at just over 2,100lbs, is CA legal and DOT approved and as verified by the pictures, it was just shown at The Quail. …Read More »
