September 24, 2009: The Porsche 959 is often attributed to starting the “supercar” craze of the late 80’s and 90’s, which gave birth to cars such as the Ferrari F40, Bugatti EB110, Jaguar XJ220 and later, the mighty McLaren F1. The 959 was originally built to enter the infamous FIA “Group B” rally series but the class that was home to the fastest, most powerful and sophisticated rally cars ever built was banned due to high level of danger for drivers and spectators; most cars never ran. September 14, 2009: While this may not be the prettiest car we’ve ever featured, it’s certainly rare and exciting. This Renault R5 has the Stage II version of the Formula One derived Turbo 4 cylinder producing 220hp, of course mounted behind the driver. The R5’s were originally built to homologate their FIA World Rally cars, so these are truly rally inspired.
