Ford, Race Cars, Road Cars

January 24, 2009: We’re back from a great weekend in Scottsdale where we enjoyed watching the action at Barrett Jackson, RM Auctions and Gooding & Co. We were very disappointed at RM when they announced the GT90 had been pulled from the event. We were looking forward to seeing the car and watching the bidding. If we find out any more info, we’ll post it here.
December 22, 2009: On Friday, January 22, 2010 RM Auctions will auction off a truly unique Ford. The 1995 Ford GT90 was unveiled in January 1995 at the Detroit Auto Show as a successor to the legendary GT40 which Ford, with help from guys like Carroll Shelby, employed to beat Ferrari at Le Mans throughout the second half of the 1960’s. The auction house claims $3million dollars was spent in developing the carbon fiber panel, honeycomb aluminum chassis, 720hp quad-turbo V12 supercar. While RM Auctions is not currently providing any estimates, we doubt it will be bid up nearly that high. In the meantime, do any readers have estimates of their own? …Read More »

Ford, Road Cars

Unless you’ve been on another planet for the past decade, you already know the facts about this car. Styled after the Le Mans winning GT40’s of the sixties, 2005-2006 Ford GT’s have 500hp/500ft lbs supercharged V8 and 6 speeds of mind numbing acceleration. None have traction control, no stability management and in fact there are no real electronic aids what-so-ever. Some things we know: many were crashed with only delivery miles, more have been wrecked since, Ford offered 4 options, most GT’s had stripes.
While Ford made more than a few GT’s, we like this car because it is a bit unique. It seems to be a stripe-delete car, so it has no hood or side stripes. Most cars had both stripes, if not then they usually had one or the other. The lack of stripes gives this particular car a clean look that we love. Additionally, the owner claims this is a one owner car with a clean title and no stories, plus it’s gone less than 4K miles. …Read More »

Lotus, Race Cars

The Lotus Elan (and 26R) played the role of David vs. the Goliaths of Ferrari, Porsche and Jaguar during the late 1960s and 1970s. Lotus never raced factory 26R’s but supported privateers and their successful racing ventures. The cars originally were sold in kit form so it’s unknown how many were built, estimates usually fall around 97 cars. With so few real 26R’s built, they are difficult to find and massively expensive.
We like this particular Elan because it has South African racing history beginning early in its life, so it’s not some recent build someone is trying to make money on; the car has history. The seller claims this Elan is extremely lightweight (we are suckers for anything that’s been lightened to <1500 lbs!), is nicely set up with Quaife competition close-ratio gearbox, Full 26R chassis reinforcements and comes with a very complete documentation of the vintage racing history, invoices and dyno sheet. The car has raced with the VSCDA, HSR and SVRA and due to it’s history we see no problem in getting it accepted at just about any event you choose. …Read More »

Porsche, Road Cars

Those familiar with Ruf know that it is has been THE Porsche tuner for the past few decades, creating cars like the CTR Yellowbird, BTR, RGT and RT 12. Nice examples of these cars can be tough to find, so when we came across this one we knew we had to share it.
This is a BTR conversion which was the exact car featured in the May 1997 issue of Car and Driver. It started life with rare options including Sunroof Delete and Rear Seat Delete from the factory. On top of those factory options, the BTR conversion done on this car include RUF BTR engine conversion, RUF transmission upgrade, RUF coilover suspension, RUF brake upgrade, RUF 18″ wheels, RUF steering wheel, RUF shift knob and a leather Covered Roll Bar. This car has been gine through completely in the last 18 months including a full engine rebuild done by the technicians at RUF Auto Centre. Let them know you saw it on TwoSeatsorLess! …Read More »

Ferrari, Road Cars
The car that attracted a generation of Ferrari die-hards aided by its ageless design, record-breaking performance and, of course, as the star of “Magnum PI.” Never before had a car represented a brand or a generation of sports cars as the 308/328 series did for Ferrari and the 1980s. The design is among the most beautiful in Ferrari’s storied history and is still modern-looking today. …Read More »

Ferrari, Road Cars

Update 8/22/09- Well that was fast. This car has been marked “sold” on Fantasy Junction’s website.
Here’s something you don’t see every day: a white vintage Ferrari. While it normally wouldn’t be our first choice of color, we think white compliments the 400 Superamerica really well. The seller claims this car is 1 of 14 with the Aerodinamica body work (styled by Pininfarina) and that this was the Geneva Autoshow car.
When buying a Ferrari, it’s always important to note the history and service records. This example has exceptional ownership history and has just recently been certified by Ferrari under their Classiche program, helping to add to the provenance. While the 400 S/A is not quite as desirable as the 410 S/A, we’d love to have this one in our garage. We’d pull the rear fender skirts off to show the whole rear tire and drive the heck out of it. These vintage Ferrari’s can actually be pretty reliable if driven and maintained properly.
At $1.25M this car isn’t cheap but it’s definitely got its place in history. For more info contact Fantasy Junction in Northern California. …Read More »
