Brian Redman Track Event: Targa Sixty Six (66) Palm Beach @ PBIR

Targa 66 Palm Beach

On our way back from sunny Palm Beach where we spent a few days at Brian and James Redman’s Targa Sixty Six (66) and wanted to write a small review. In short, if you’re looking for track days that aren’t too competitive but give you a LOT of track time, in a relaxed but safe environment, this is a great event. Pricing is $1,500 for three days of driving which seems expensive until you notice you can bring multiple cars with up to two drivers. So, pricing comes out to $250 per person, per day, which is very reasonable. …Read More »

Not a Real Kremer: Porsche 935 K3 Clone

porsche_935_k3_right

Kremer Racing built some of the fastest Porsche 935’s in existence, as proven by their win at the 1979 running of Le Mans. This car isn’t one of them, it’s a replica, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t cool. With Real K3’s asking $850,000, this car seem like quite the deal, at only $85,000. …Read More »

Eligible Everywhere: 1957 AC Aceca with FIA logbook

1957 AC Aceca LF

This 1957 AC Aceca is a find that’s met us with mixed emotions. It was for sale (from what we recall, 6-7 years ago) for $44,000 here, but we missed it then! We’ve often looked for this exact car to come back on the market and now it has, but the values of Aceca’s have climbed, now the seller is asking $119,000. We think it’s fairly priced, just a bit hard for us to pull the trigger right now. …Read More »

Evolved Vintage Racer: 1962 Kellison-Corvette

LF

Jim Kellison was an Air Force pilot during the Korean War who later studied aircraft engineering at UCLA. In 1954, he founded Kellison Engineering and begain professionally engineering sports cars with fiberglass bodies, at a price point sometimes twice that of a Corvette! For more info on Kellison, his company and his cars, check out this great aritcle in
Kit Car Magazine. This particular Kellison “Special” (the seller claims 1 of 5) is fitted with a fuel-injected Corvette 327 so you’ll be able to hold your own against those big Ferrari V-12’s when you’re placed next to them on the grid. Because this particular car is eligible for some many vintage events, $175,000 seems like a reasonable point of entry, especially when you factor in that you get to run with the multi-million dollar Ferrari’s, Jags, Cobra’s and the like. …Read More »

Vintage Racecar, Driver Needed: 1965 Sunbeam Tiger

LS

If you’ve been looking for a fully prepped B Production vintage racer at a reasonable price, this Sunbeam may be a good option. At an asking price of $55,000 this Tiger is probably one of the most cost effective ways to get out and run with Shelby Mustangs and Cobras while not worrying quite as much about your wallet. This car has a long list of events it’s previously competed in, literally dozens of events on the West Coast from Thunderhill down to Coronado over the past 10 years. We often prefer a car that’s been driven and used, especially if the new owner plans to use it, as hopefully a lot of the bugs are already worked out. …Read More »

Re-listed: BMW GTP March 85G

LS Daytona

Update September 30, 2009: The BMW GTP car is back on EBay after not previously selling. We’ve updated pricing and links.

Update September 18, 2009: The BMW GTP racecar did not meet reserve at $198,100 with 5 bids.

September 16, 2009: Here’s a great opportunity to own a small piece of BMW racing history. This was the back-up/test car for BMW’s racing efforts in the IMSA GTP series in the 1980’s. For those of you unfamiliar with the GTP series, it’s still hailed as the some of the most exciting days in Sports Car racing’s history. Wikipedia has a decent article here which gives details about the rise and fall of the IMSA series. These were the days when manufacturing efforts from Porsche, Toyota, Nissan, March, Chevrolet, Ford, Jaguar, Mazda, Tiga, Kudzu, Spice, Argo and Intrepid all came together each weekend for races up to 24 hours long. …Read More »

Vintage Can-Am Race Car: 1980 T530 Lola Chevrolet Chassis T530-HU8

LF

If you’re already looking forward to next August and the Monterey Historics, this might be your chance to run with the big boys for a reasonable price. Lola T530’s, especially Chevy powered T530’s, dominated the Can-Am series in the early 80’s and while this car didn’t dominate, it has had an interesting history. …Read More »

Act Now: 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby G.T.350 Racecar Tribute – $25,000

LSAnother one for the Mustang/Shelby guys out there. We featured a very nice G.T. 350 Tribute street car that sold very quickly a few weeks ago. This is a similar car except this one is track prepped. If you’re looking to run HSR, SVRA or even some of the classes in NASA or SCCA, this may be a great car to look into. But act quickly, as the seller (Gayle) told us she’s had quite a few calls since she posted the car up for her father. …Read More »

Championship Winning Trans Am Car: 1969 Penske Racing Camaro Z28 of Mark Donahue/Roy Woods

RS

This is perhaps the car from the Golden Era of the Trans Am Series. There’s a good write up here if you want to learn more about the details of Trans Am racing but really all you need to know is that SCCA Trans Am was the 1960’s version of what NASCAR is today– Huge. “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday” was the common theme that kept most American car manufacturers racing on the weekends. Ford and Shelby Mustangs, Boss 302’s, AMC Javelin’s and Mercury Cougars battled Camaro’s like this one through out the late 60’s and into the early 1970’s. Because the cars were still largely based on production models, privateers could build cars and race head-to-head against factory cars; this made for some of the best sportscar racing in the history of the US. What we have here is one of the “privateer” cars, run by Team Penske, sponsored by Sunoco and driven by Mark Donohue (cool first hand stories about Mark here) to win the Trans Am Series Championship in 1969. …Read More »
