Brian Redman Track Event: Targa Sixty Six (66) Palm Beach @ PBIR

Targa 66 Palm Beach

On our way back from sunny Palm Beach where we spent a few days at Brian and James Redman’s Targa Sixty Six (66) and wanted to write a small review. In short, if you’re looking for track days that aren’t too competitive but give you a LOT of track time, in a relaxed but safe environment, this is a great event. Pricing is $1,500 for three days of driving which seems expensive until you notice you can bring multiple cars with up to two drivers. So, pricing comes out to $250 per person, per day, which is very reasonable. …Read More »

Sebring 12Hr Winner: 1989 Kudzu DG2.02 IMSA GTP Light

1990 Buick Kudzu 12 Hr Sebring F

February 7, 2010: This Kudzu has been relisted here on EBay starting at $155,000 with no reserve. We thought it was priced on the high side previously and the seller must have agreed. Still love the original paint from when it ran professionally.

January 6, 2010: Obviously we’re big sports car fans and like many others, we enjoying seeing just about anything from the IMSA GTP days. This 1990 Kudzu-Buick IMSA GTP Lights contendor has been advertised on and off for some time and we’ve always found it interesting. It recently popped back up and EBay so we’re wondering if the seller is willing to accept less than his (already reduced) asking price of $189,995. Bidding starts at $75,000 with Reserve Not Met. …Read More »

Race Car for the Street: 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster with 962 Twin Turbo Engine

1989 Porsche 911 962 LF

One of the fastest open top cars this side of a Bugatti Veyron Grandsport has to be this Canepa Design race bred 962powered 1989 911 Speedster. With almost 600hp coming from the air cooled twin turbo, Bruce Canepa claims to have taken it to 202mph, where it felt “pretty comfortable.” A lot of time and energy was spent developing this 911, as the entire car has been upgraded. All for a price of $229,000. …Read More »

Not a Real Kremer: Porsche 935 K3 Clone

porsche_935_k3_right

Kremer Racing built some of the fastest Porsche 935’s in existence, as proven by their win at the 1979 running of Le Mans. This car isn’t one of them, it’s a replica, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t cool. With Real K3’s asking $850,000, this car seem like quite the deal, at only $85,000. …Read More »

No Regular C4: 1988 Corvette Challenge Car

1988 Corvette Challenge LF

If you don’t know what a Corvette Challenge car is, click here for a decent explanation. The gist of what happened is this: in the mid 80’s, Corvettes were too fast and the SCCA banned them from competition. In order to keep everything copasetic, the SCCA devised a racing class just for Corvettes, similar to that of the IROC Porsche and Camaro’s. All the cars were to be based on stock configuration, with limited modification, in order to highlight driver expertise. We believe around 110 of these cars were built in ‘88 and ‘89, making this car, at $45,000, a possible ‘deal.’ …Read More »

Daytona 24hr History: 1995 “Cannibal” IMSA WSC

DAYTONA

November 22, 2009: After only a short time on the market, the seller dropped the price on the “Cannibal” to $59,900.

November 9, 2009: The “Cannibal” was pretty well known in the IMSA WSC series during the mid 90’s. Not for its race-winning success but for the gents at Fantasy Junction assembling a solid effort on a fraction of the budget of the big teams. This car ran the 12 hours of Sebring and finished the Daytona 24 hours 4 times, no little feat! Although a crude build compared to the competition, this car has to be the cheapest running WSC car available, at $65,900. …Read More »

BMW Motorsports Build: 1987 BMW E30 325is “Warsteiner” Race Car

LS

November 18, 2009: This ///M striped BMW is back up on EBay under the same seller. He’s reduced the Buy It Now from $21,495 to $19,495; we still think the car is great if the history can be proven. We’ve updated the links and pricing.

October 13, 2009: Here’s an unusual one for you BMW guys. The seller claims this is one of two cars professionally built by BMW Motorsport N.A. for the 1987-1988 IMSA International Sedan Series. Assuming that’s the case, this isn’t just any 325is but a factory-backed production based race car. This car is painted the right colors, white with tricolor “M” stripes and the sponsorship by Warsteiner makes sense, as they were big sponsors of BMW around this time, especially of the E30 M3’s running the DTM class in Europe. That said, it’s very easy to paint a car up in this fashion, so we’d like to see some more paperwork. If the seller can prove it’s provenance, which it sounds like he can, this car could be a solid deal at $19,495. …Read More »

Cannonball One-Lap of America Winner: 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Replica

LF

Mongoose Motorsports is a company that primarily focuses on building Corvette Grand Sport replicas. This one has unique history in that it ran, and won it’s class, at Brock Yates’ One Lap of America in 2002. The One Lap is Yates’ tribute to the Cannonball Run (essentially unrestricted race across the U.S.) he helped run through the 70’s. Now, the racing is done on racetracks and the rest of the driving around the U.S. is for “transportation” or cruising, over a 7 day period. It’s cool to have a car that’s run this event and survived, this one is listed on EBay with reserve not met at $49,995. …Read More »

Group C History: Tiga Chassis 351 C2 Sports Prototype

RF

We’ve always loved the European Group C and IMSA GTP cars, this Tiga is no different. The car ran in the late 80’s under the Group C2 category (similar to GTP/L in the US), as a lighter, less powerful version of the C1 (or GTP) class. Although the C2 and GTP/L classes were not as popular as the higher horsepower cars when they ran professionally, these classes now represent a good way to run along side Porsche 956’s/962’s and the like in historic races around the world. Yes they’re slower, but that’s all relative when speaking of these Prototypes; they’re cheaper to maintain and often much more reasonable to run for the season. This car, priced at $135,000 looks like a great way to get behind the wheel of a “P-car.” …Read More »
