Another all-original car has come our way this week in the form of this 1962 Corvette. We love cars that have been well kept, this one is no different. The seller claims it’s got all original paint, interior, moldings, chrome, glass and drive train. If you look closely at some of the pictures from his ad you can see original looking markings on the undercarriage. Mongoose Motorsports is a company that primarily focuses on building Corvette Grand Sport replicas. This one has unique history in that it ran, and won it’s class, at Brock Yates’ One Lap of America in 2002. The One Lap is Yates’ tribute to the Cannonball Run (essentially unrestricted race across the U.S.) he helped run through the 70’s. Now, the racing is done on racetracks and the rest of the driving around the U.S. is for “transportation” or cruising, over a 7 day period. This is perhaps the car from the Golden Era of the Trans Am Series. There’s a good write up here if you want to learn more about the details of Trans Am racing but really all you need to know is that SCCA Trans Am was the 1960’s version of what NASCAR is today– Huge. “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday” was the common theme that kept most American car manufacturers racing on the weekends. Ford and Shelby Mustangs, Boss 302’s, AMC Javelin’s and Mercury Cougars battled Camaro’s like this one through out the late 60’s and into the early 1970’s. Because the cars were still largely based on production models, privateers could build cars and race head-to-head against factory cars; this made for some of the best sportscar racing in the history of the US. What we have here is one of the “privateer” cars, run by Team Penske, sponsored by Sunoco and driven by Mark Donohue (cool first hand stories about Mark here) to win the Trans Am Series Championship in 1969. …Read More »

8/27/2009: We’ve got something a little different for you today. This is a 1957 Corvette that’s been completely redone from top to bottom in a resto-mod fashion. The seller claims the paint is show quality and mechanically it’s ready to drive. We’ve always like the single headlights on these early cars and are pleasantly surprised how nice the car looks in Millennium Yellow with the “coves” painted body color.
