Lotus, Race Cars

Looking to get into professional racing? Or just dream of running local track days in an open cockpit racer, banging off shifts with your fully sequential dog box, pretending you’re Tom Kristensen in an Audi R10 at Le Mans? Either way, it sounds like this Lotus 2-Eleven GT4 is what you need. This car is a more racey version of the already race-able Lotus 2-Eleven and is basically ready for whatever you throw at it. …Read More »

- Louts 340R
This 340R makes 3 different Lotus varietals in 4 days on Two Seats or Less. Contrary to what you may think, we don’t have some sick love affair with Loti but we do love light weight sports cars and this is 1 of 10 in the US and 1 of 1 with a title and plates! The seller claims it’s 1450lbs(!!!) and is still streetable. If you’re looking for a Sunday cruiser with a top and windows, look elsewhere. Things like carpeting, a radio, trunk, or umm… doors, are not even optional on this ride. The 340R is all about saving weight and Lotus has done a great job of it here. …Read More »

Two Blue Loti in two days here on TSOL!
This is a very different car than the Elan we featured yesterday but they’re both inspired by the same minimalist ideals. Light weight, a high revving engine and tight suspension make this a great weekend toy and something you can happily take to some HPDE’s. The Elise was introduced in the US back in 2005 and they’ve been a very reliable and fun way to enter exotic waters. They’re quick, docile and are a great way to learn to driving with momentum at the track. …Read More »

Lotus, Race Cars

The Lotus Elan (and 26R) played the role of David vs. the Goliaths of Ferrari, Porsche and Jaguar during the late 1960s and 1970s. Lotus never raced factory 26R’s but supported privateers and their successful racing ventures. The cars originally were sold in kit form so it’s unknown how many were built, estimates usually fall around 97 cars. With so few real 26R’s built, they are difficult to find and massively expensive.
We like this particular Elan because it has South African racing history beginning early in its life, so it’s not some recent build someone is trying to make money on; the car has history. The seller claims this Elan is extremely lightweight (we are suckers for anything that’s been lightened to <1500 lbs!), is nicely set up with Quaife competition close-ratio gearbox, Full 26R chassis reinforcements and comes with a very complete documentation of the vintage racing history, invoices and dyno sheet. The car has raced with the VSCDA, HSR and SVRA and due to it’s history we see no problem in getting it accepted at just about any event you choose. …Read More »
