Bloomington Gold Survivor: 1957 Corvette 4 spd 245hp 283ci

Corvette owners have been known to go overboard about liking their cars just the way they left the factory; this is one of those cars that Corvette-nuts are all over. There is no group quite so committed to ‘original’ or ‘survivor’ cars like Corvette enthusiasts, they eat this stuff up. This particular one needs a lot of work to make it back to showroom condition, but maybe you’re one of the guys who doesn’t care about that, if so, it’s available for $45,000.
We like pretty much any late C1 Corvette but especially the single headlight years of 1956-57. The owner claims the 4 speed was not offered until late in production in ’57 and as such, only 664 Corvettes that year came with them from the factory; good news we think. The owner claims this car is pretty much as it left the factory with almost all original mechanicals, including the dual-quad carburetors. He also says it’s drive-able, claiming that he’s recently driven it with no problems. A couple things we wish the car had, that were probably nabbed by some over-zealous enthusiast along the way are original parts including: power soft top assembly, fan shroud, jack, tools, front carpet, washer bottle, tachometer, shifter bezel and ashtray. But, nothing is perfect and the lack of these items allow for better bargaining techniques from the buyer.
The more we see over-restored, under-utilized and un-enjoyed cars, the more these ‘survivors’ really appeal to us. It’s always a treat to see items that haven’t been touched in 50+ years and we simply enjoy that a car like this tells a story, all on its own. Find it here for sale in Taylor, Texas.
