1996 Detomaso Gaura RF

What is that??? That’s what we imagine you’d hear while driving this De Tomaso Guarà. This is one of 2 (of the 40 made) in the U.S., from what we understand, so you’d likely never ‘see yourself coming around a corner’ in one. It’s unusual and while the Italian stying isn’t for everyone, we really like that it doesn’t look like anything else. It’s currently on EBay at $100,000 with 0 bids and Reserve Not Met.

Autozine has a nice write-up on these cars and QV500 has aregistry of each car. We believe the entry for this particular Guarà is found here and worth a quick read. Seems like this car was actually brought in as a kit and assembled here, as to comply would US Market standards. This would explain the 4.6L Ford V8, as these motors didn’t come until the later (’98+) cars, but then this one would have taken a while to get in the country and built, plus the Ford motor makes sense as it was already being implemented in the U.S at the time.

We love the rear hatch that opens like an Enzo as well as the uniquely positioned side mirrors. Take notice, the QV500 entry says this car was sold on EBay in 2006 for $75,100. It looks like the new owner has done some work, cleaned it up and refreshed the interior, but it’s good to keep that price in mind. Find it on EBay in Woodland Hills, CA.
