Not For Purists: 1955 Ford Thunderbird Street Rod

Hope everyone’s had a nice President’s Day, apologies for not posting the last few days, things have been quite busy. Today we’ve noticed a pretty cool looking Turquoise 1955 Ford Thunderbird hot rod that will make the Ford purists out there cringe. However, this car is really meant to be a hot rod, built as a cruiser by someone who didn’t want the typical hot rod (think 30’s roadster) body. It’s currently on EBay, with a Buy It Now price of $65,000.
Make no mistake, while this looks like a simple, cool ‘55 T-Bird, it’s all hot hod. The frame is custom built and is fitted with independent suspension and four wheel discs. The thing the Ford guys will hate the most, it’s powered by a Chevrolet LT-1. Good news is that is has ample horsepower, gets good mileage, runs very clean and has all the nice stuff for making it a cruiser, such as A/C and power steering. It’s mated to a 4 speed auto, which we’d like to see replaced with a 5 or 6 speed manual (probably not overly difficult but would cost $$$ so you’d have to make sure it was a keeper). Since the car isn’t close to original, getting over the Chevrolet power-plant should be a little bit easier.
All in all this car looks very tastefully done. We love the aggressive stance and the American Racing wheels. While it’s still a hot rod, we like the fact that the body is original. Find it here on EBay in Houston, Texas.

Why would anybody want to ruin a car by doing what has been done to this one.
