Affordable Driver: 1988 BMW E30 M3

This ‘88 M3 could be great fun as a unique daily driver, for a reasonable price. It’s got a bunch of recent work done on it and has some really nice features. The miles are on the higher side, at 157k but these cars routinely go for 200K plus, so this one should have a lot of life left in it. The seller claims its a clean title with all original panels and is asking $12,000. Given our experiences, we believe it can be had for much less.
We’d be interested in driving this car daily for a number of reasons. We like white BMW’s because white is a BMW Motorsport tradition, so it reminds us of racecars. Beyond that, this ‘88 has great stuff like: new aluminum control arms, H&R club sport coilover suspension, Recaro SRD’s with OE Sport Evolution sliders($$$), as well as fresh brakes, tires and valve adjustment. A substantial portion of the asking price can be seen in these parts and services.
The good and the bad: the seller claims it needs a new Cat as it didn’t pass smog in California. Once that happens, the DMV ups your fees and makes it a bit more painful to get it re-registered in CA. What that means for the buyer is that the seller probably doesn’t want to deal with it and will let it go for a decent offer. If you live outside of CA then it’s even easier to deal with. So, go check this M3 out, offer $9,000-9,500 cash and we bet you walk away with one of the most iconic BMW cars of all time. Find it here in Santa Cruz, CA.
