Super-deal: Superformance GT40 Mark II

If you don’t know much about the Superformance GT40 check out their website. These are built in South Africa, steel-mono and ‘licensed’ recreations that mimic the originals with a high level of accuracy. These cars cost about $80,000 for a painted and assembled chassis, plus roughtly $35,000-$45,000 for an engine and transmission. This particular car is fully assembled with a Roush 427R and ZF trans, has only 1,600 miles, and we think is a great deal at $85,000.

Another cool tidbit about this car is that the seller claims it was on the Speed Channel show Dream Car Garage. We haven’t been able to verify the TV program with any footage but it looks like you can buy old seasons online. Regardless of whether or not it was on a TV show, we still think it’s a great deal, considering the price of the chassis plus the engine, gearbox and install.

That thing is totally cooler than the new Ford GT, and with their prices running around $150k right now this is a relative bargain. Problem is figuring out future value or depreciation of a kit car vs. a limited edition late model supercar… It could potentially become a big loss if a new owner wants to sell it in the future, while the Ford GT is a sure thing.

I agree with you Hoov, on the fact that these cars are pretty cool. They’re way different than a Ford GT, these are really racecars for the street where as the GT is truly a street car. I think they will hold their value pretty well, given they are actually license “contination cars” by Safir, who actually own the GT40 name.
