1988 Corvette Challenge LF

If you don’t know what a Corvette Challenge car is, click here for a decent explanation. The gist of what happened is this: in the mid 80’s, Corvettes were too fast and the SCCA banned them from competition. In order to keep everything copasetic, the SCCA devised a racing class just for Corvettes, similar to that of the IROC Porsche and Camaro’s. All the cars were to be based on stock configuration, with limited modification, in order to highlight driver expertise. We believe around 110 of these cars were built in ‘88 and ‘89, making this car, at $45,000, a possible ‘deal.’

We’re always on the ‘lookout’ for Corvette Challenge cars for sale. One, because we believe they will consistently rise in price and two, because we once saw one run at Watkins Glen and it left a lasting impression. There’s just nothing like the sound of a V8 with open headers. We know of at least one other for sale, but that guy won’t tell us his price and frankly that’s enough to deter us. This particular car was driven by Peter Cunningham who later went on to win multiple SCCA Drivers Championships, which probably adds a slight premium.

We like the fact that these cars were set up to be identical and that most parts still aren’t too hard to come by. Much to our chagrin, this ‘Vette hasn’t gotten much love on EBay; but, for more information, or to contact the seller, see the car here, which is currently located in Indiana.
