Cannonball One-Lap of America Winner: 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Replica

Mongoose Motorsports is a company that primarily focuses on building Corvette Grand Sport replicas. This one has unique history in that it ran, and won it’s class, at Brock Yates’ One Lap of America in 2002. The One Lap is Yates’ tribute to the Cannonball Run (essentially unrestricted race across the U.S.) he helped run through the 70’s. Now, the racing is done on racetracks and the rest of the driving around the U.S. is for “transportation” or cruising, over a 7 day period. It’s cool to have a car that’s run this event and survived, this one is listed on EBay with reserve not met at $49,995.
We like that the owner is very open about the car and how it’s been used. Here’s a video he posted from Corvette’s at Carlisle:
It doesn’t bother us that the car has been driven hard, that’s what it was built to do. In fact, we’d like to see this car run another One Lap; the Results from 2002 show it proved to not only dominate the “vintage” class, but that it could be a contender for the overall victory as well. Great thing about this event is that it takes place over thousands of miles and for multiple days. So, the car needs to not only be fast, but reliable and perform well in different conditions.
The general set up is a 434c.i. small block mated to a 3 speed automatic. We suspect the auto was built for drag racing, obviously with some work that could be changed. It also has Brodix heads, Koni coil overs, a 3 quart accusump, Dana 44 and a roll bar and fuel cell; it means business.
