BMW Motorsports Build: 1987 BMW E30 325is “Warsteiner” Race Car

November 18, 2009: This ///M striped BMW is back up on EBay under the same seller. He’s reduced the Buy It Now from $21,495 to $19,495; we still think the car is great if the history can be proven. We’ve updated the links and pricing.
October 13, 2009: Here’s an unusual one for you BMW guys. The seller claims this is one of two cars professionally built by BMW Motorsport N.A. for the 1987-1988 IMSA International Sedan Series. Assuming that’s the case, this isn’t just any 325is but a factory-backed production based race car. This car is painted the right colors, white with tricolor “M” stripes and the sponsorship by Warsteiner makes sense, as they were big sponsors of BMW around this time, especially of the E30 M3’s running the DTM class in Europe. That said, it’s very easy to paint a car up in this fashion, so we’d like to see some more paperwork. If the seller can prove it’s provenance, which it sounds like he can, this car could be a solid deal at $19,495.
Assuming this car is what it claims to be, it looks to be in good shape. The seller claims the dry-sump, polished crank, high compression 2.5l motor received a full rebuild 8 hours ago. Additionally, a new ATL fuel cell and fuel lines were added in 2005 and it’s also got a new ECU with Dinan custom chip tuning, airbox, MAF, clutch, brake and clutch master cylinders. The seller also claims it has some unique BMW Motorsport suspension and brake parts which may help a new buyer in identifying it.
The best way to know more about this car is to see it in person and have someone qualified inspect it. If you need help locating someone who can help, drop us a note at mail@twoseatsorless.com and we can probably provide you with the name of someone who can help. Otherwise, check out the car on EBay in Roswell, GA.
