1 of 8: 2003 Panoz Esperante GT-LM ALMS Race Car

Here’s another car that’s ready for the track. It’d be at home at HPDE’s, SCCA race weekends or, given the current rules, HSR/SVRA historic races; plus the Shelby club would happily accept it because the power plant is from Ford. If you don’t know much about Panoz, check out their site, here to learn what you’ve missed. Panoz Auto Development was founded by Dan Panoz, son of Don Panoz, who very conveniently owns Mosport, Road Atlanta, and Sebring International Raceway as well as American LeMans and IMSA. This is a car built by a group with some serious cache, that ran the ALMS series in 2003, and can now be purchased for $99,000.
From what we can tell, this car was run by Team Hyper Sport (a.k.a. Demsey Racing), in 2003. Here’s a brief list of some of the GT-LM’s and we think this is a photo of the for-sale car when it was run by Team Hyper Sport. Otherwise, we don’t have many details on this one; we’re sure the guys who ran ALMS in ‘03 could fill in the gaps. What we do know is that a typical ALMS build is several hundred thousand dollars, ranging up to a half-million, so you’re getting a lot relative to what this car costs new.
Finally, the guys who have this for sale, Wire Wheel, in Vero Beach, FL might be willing to negotiate on price. It’s been for sale for some time and we’ve noticed it seems to be more actively advertised lately.
