Spec Racer: 1996 Mazda Miata race car

If you don’t know about the Spec Miata series, you should really check it out. It was developed for racers on a budget, who want to run production cars competitively. So, the jest is that you each start with a Miata which you can do a limited amount of upgrades to, dependent on the year. If you’re looking to get into club racing with SCCA or NASA, this is a great entry level vehicle, especially for $11,500.
This particular car has won races in its region and the seller claims it’s competitive on a national level. Normally we’d prefer a mid-pack car to a front-runner because often times the front-runners have been pushed to the max. However, this car has largely been gone through, exactly why we’d give it a look. Seller claims it was built on a straight, low mile donor (50k) which is a bit unusual for the series, many cars are 100k miles or more. It’s had a fresh top-end rebuild, as well as rebuilt shocks and transmission and new wheel bearings. Plus it’s got goodies like an aluminum radiator, FIA harnesses approved ’til 2014 and comes with 3 sets of wheels.
Besides giving the car a good check prior to buying, be aware that if you’re on the larger side, you may not fit well. These cars are small to begin with and adding a cage and hardtop does not help. For more info, find this Miata, here near Des Moines, Iowa.
