Another Survivor: 1970 De Tomaso Mangusta with 9,226 miles

Here’s another low-miler for those of you who want something that’s been well preserved. The seller claims this car has covered just over 9,000 miles since 1970, not even 250 miles per year! The De Tomaso Mangusta is an Italian car, produced by Ghia in Modena, Italy (where Ferrari’s are made) and fitted with a Ford V8 engine. This was a car for someone looking for Italian styling with a powerful yet reliable American engine, the same holds true today.
Most of the 400 or so Mangusta’s were fitted with a Ford 302 V8 and ZF 5 speed trans although some had the Ford 289 and it’s believed that one even had a Chevy 327. A few sources claim there are only around 200 Mangusta’s left which is one of the reasons you don’t see them very often. We like this car because it appears to have been well preserved; the interior, paint, body and chrome all look to be in fantastic shape. The engine compartment could use a bit of freshening, but since a fair amount of the parts are Ford related, that should be too bad. We also love the color combination and feel a light exterior really suits the Mangusta, with it’s large body panels and flat surfaces.
If you want a more racy look, you could always lower the stance, like this one, which gives a very aggressive stance. We wouldn’t do that to this car, we’d simply clean up the engine compartment a bit and have someone give the mechanicals a once-over. Then, we’d take the car to some cruise nights and casual shows and let everyone enjoy seeing such an original example. Additionally, the guys over at Mangusta International would likely welcome you with smiles and congratulations.
At $109,500 ask, this De Tomaso’s not a steal; however, we know of another car for sale with 16,000 original miles asking $120,000, so this car looks to be priced competitively. For more info and pics, see this De Tomaso Mangusta here in Northern California.
